DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in Dallas: What to Know First
As an independent DuraFlex service provider, we inspect DuraFlex chimney systems across Dallas for $249 to $449, with most inspections completed in 60 to 90 minutes and a written report in your hands before we leave the driveway. We are not affiliated with DuraFlex or authorized by the manufacturer. We just know their products well enough to tell you exactly what’s happening inside your flue and whether it needs attention now or can wait.
If you own a home with a DuraFlex liner, converted furnace flue, or pre-insulated chimney system and you want a straight answer about its condition, call (361) 314-3193. Nathan Corliss and our techs handle DuraFlex inspections throughout Dallas, from Lakewood to Preston Hollow, and we’ll tell you the price before we book anything.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Find It
DuraFlex makes solid products. But every liner brand has its own failure patterns, and after years of camera inspections in Dallas homes, we’ve learned what to look for before the problem becomes a rebuild. Here’s what we actually see:
- DuraFlex 316L single-wall liner: pitting at the drip edge. In Dallas, we get condensation cycles that other climates don’t see. Warm attic air meets a cold liner at the top of the chase, water beads form, and over years that moisture eats at the thin metal right where the liner cap seats. We find pinholes there in Level 2 camera inspections that a visual sweep would miss entirely. The fix is usually a new liner cap and top plate, not a full reline, when caught early.
- DuraFlex Pro (the 316Ti alloy): weld seam separation at the locking band. The Pro series uses a heavier alloy, but the locking bands that join sections are still the weak point. After a decade of Dallas freeze-thaw cycles, the band can flex loose and the liner sections start to separate at the joint. You’ll see a slight offset in the flue wall on camera. That’s a repair we do with replacement locking bands, no full liner swap needed.
- DuraFlex SW (smooth-wall) series: creosote buildup at the corrugation transition. Where the smooth inner wall meets the corrugated outer shell, there’s a lip. Creosote and soot collect there faster than anywhere else in the flue, especially in wood-burning fireplaces that haven’t been swept in a few seasons. We see this constantly in older Dallas homes. The fix starts with a sweep, but if the buildup has glazed, it’s a chemical treatment followed by a camera check to confirm the liner wall is clean.
- DuraFlex 304 alloy liners on gas appliances: premature scaling from acid condensate. This one surprises people. Gas produces acidic condensate, and if the liner isn’t rated for it or it runs oversized (a common shortcut), that acid eats the stainless faster than flue gas ever would. We’ll spot it on camera as whitish, flaky scaling on the inner wall. The honest answer: if it’s a 304 liner on a gas appliance, sometimes replacement with a 316L or pro-grade alloy is the only right fix, and we’ll show you the camera footage so you can see why.
- Improper insulation wrap on DuraFlex liners in exterior Dallas chases. A DuraFlex liner inside an exterior masonry chase with missing or compressed insulation will cool faster than the flue gas, which means more condensation, more creosote, and a hotter chase in summer. We check the insulation wrap during our inspection, not just the liner. Half of the DuraFlex liner damage we find in North Dallas is insulation failure, not steel failure.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s what a DuraFlex inspection looks like when you call Ashby Chimney Dallas:
- 1
You call (361) 314-3193 and talk to a live person. We ask about your fireplace or appliance, the age of the liner if you know it, and what prompted the call. You get a written price before we schedule anything.
- 2
We arrive in the window we gave you. Background-checked, uniformed techs. You know exactly who’s walking in.
- 3
We run a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection, depending on what your home needs. For most DuraFlex owners in Dallas, that’s a Level 2 with camera, because the liner is hidden and you need eyes inside it. If it’s a real estate transaction, that’s also a Level 2 per most inspector requirements.
- 4
The camera goes down the flue. We look for the failure modes above: pitting, seam separation, scaling, creosote lip buildup, insulation gaps. We record everything.
- 5
You see the footage. We don’t tell you there’s a problem and expect you to trust us. We show you the screen. If it’s clean, we’ll say it’s clean and tell you when to call us again.
- 6
You get a written report with photos and a plain-English recommendation. If work is needed, the price is in the report, in writing, before you approve anything. If the repair is covered under our Kingswell Guarantee, that’s in writing too.
Tell you the price first, do the work right, put it in writing – that’s the whole job.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Costs in Dallas
Most DuraFlex chimney inspections in Dallas run between $249 and $449, depending on what we’re looking at and how deep we need to go:
- Level 1 visual inspection: $149-$249. Basic check of the accessible parts of the chimney and appliance connection. Quick, but it won’t tell you much about the liner’s interior condition.
- Level 2 camera inspection (the one most DuraFlex owners in Dallas need): $249-$399. Full camera run through the liner, plus inspection of the cap, crown, flashing, and clearances. This is what we recommend when you haven’t had the liner looked at in years, or when you’re buying or selling a home.
- Level 3 inspection (with partial demolition to access hidden sections): $449-$899 or more. Only needed when we have reason to believe there’s damage inside a wall or chase that a camera can’t reach. We’ll tell you honestly if this is necessary. Usually, it isn’t.
What moves the price: the height of the chimney, whether it’s an interior or exterior chase, how many appliances are vented through the liner, and whether we need to remove a cap or chase cover to get the camera in. Call (361) 314-3193 for an exact quote. Estimates are free, and the number we quote is the number you pay.
Why Dallas Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Dallas for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been inspecting and repairing chimneys since 2002, and we’re part of the Kingswell network of independently owned chimney companies. Nathan Corliss runs this Dallas location. He learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, spent years working on everything from old masonry fireboxes to prefab inserts, and has been running crews in Dallas for well over a decade, including a long stretch of steady work in Lakewood, where the older homes have chimneys that haven’t seen a brush since the Clinton administration.
On every DuraFlex job, we write down the price before we touch anything, and we back every repair with a written guarantee. If a covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s the same promise we make on HeatShield and Gelco work, the other major liner brands we service regularly in Dallas. Calls are answered by a live person, 24/7, no voicemail loops. You call, a person answers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Every year for a wood-burning fireplace, and every two years for a gas appliance liner is the safe standard in Dallas, where we get condensation cycles that accelerate liner wear. If something changes – new odors, visible rust, a chimney fire scare – don’t wait. Call (361) 314-3193 and we’ll get a camera in it.
Our Kingswell Guarantee covers the repair work we perform, not the manufacturer’s original liner warranty, which stays with DuraFlex. If our repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return and correct it at no charge, in writing. Call us at (361) 314-3193 if you want the exact terms before any work starts.
We can help you identify the model and age of your liner during the inspection, which you’d need to file a DuraFlex warranty claim. Warranty approval is between you and DuraFlex, but a Level 2 camera inspection with our written report is exactly the documentation most manufacturers ask for. Call (361) 314-3193 to schedule one.
It depends on what the camera shows. Patchable problems – a failed locking band, a corroded cap, a section with minor pitting – are usually cheaper to repair. Full-height corrosion, seam separation in multiple joints, or a liner that’s undersized for the appliance usually means replacement. In either case, you’ll see the footage and get the price in writing before you decide. Free estimates at (361) 314-3193.
We schedule inspections on a first-call basis, and we don’t book dispatch windows we can’t keep. Most Dallas customers get an appointment inside a week, and we’ll tell you the window when you call. Call (361) 314-3193 and a live person will set it up.
If you smell smoke or gas in the house, open windows, leave the immediate area around the fireplace, and call your utility provider if you’re on gas. Then call us at (361) 314-3193. A compromised liner is a serious carbon monoxide risk, and it’s not something to diagnose over the phone. We’ll inspect it with a camera and show you what we find.
If you own a DuraFlex chimney system in Dallas and want an honest inspection from techs who work on these liners every week, call (361) 314-3193. We’ll give you the price up front, show you the camera footage, and put every recommendation in writing. That’s how we’ve done it since 2002, and it’s not changing.
