Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Olympia Chimney Chimney Inspection in Dallas: What to Know First
We inspect Olympia Chimney systems throughout Dallas, and most inspections run between $189 and $389 depending on the level and what’s accessible. A standard visual inspection takes about 45 minutes, and we walk you through what we find, camera in hand, before any repair work is ever discussed. No inspection ends with a pressure pitch, and every finding gets put in writing with photos so you can see exactly what we saw.
If you own an Olympia Chimney fireplace, insert, or venting system in Dallas and you’re not sure when it was last checked, or you saw something that made you pause, this page is for you. Call (361) 314-3193 and we’ll tell you the price before we step foot through the door.
How Olympia Chimney Products Fail, and How We Fix Them
Olympia Chimney builds solid equipment, but Dallas heat, humidity swings, and the occasional hailstorm work against every brand. Here’s what we typically find on Olympia systems during inspections.
- Vento Series galvanized flue corrosion at the seams. The Vento line shows up in a lot of Dallas homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s, and the galvanized outer wall is the weak point. Moisture from Dallas’s humid spring and fall seasons condenses inside, and within eight to twelve years those longitudinal seams start to rust through. We catch it during a Level 2 camera inspection before it becomes a venting failure. Fix is usually a HeatShield resurfacing rather than a full liner tear-out.
- Ventis Class A chimney pipe with loose lock bands after hailstorms. Olympia’s Ventis line uses a twist-lock connection between pipe sections. That connection relies on a snug fit, and after a Dallas hailstorm with 1.5-inch or larger stones, we regularly see lock bands popped loose on exposed rooftop sections. The pipe still looks fine from the ground, but the sections separate under wind load. We check every joint when we walk the roof, which is part of why our inspections take the time they do.
- Olympia fireplace refractory panel hairline cracking from thermal cycling. Older Olympia zero-clearance fireplaces have refractory panels that look like brick but are actually a cement-based composite. Dallas winters might only drop below freezing a handful of nights, but the swing from a 500-degree firebox to a 30-degree night over and over starts hairline fractures at the panel edges. Most are cosmetic. A few are structural. We measure them, document them, and tell you plainly which is which.
- Chim-Champ II liner kits installed without proper insulation. We see a fair number of Olympia Chim-Champ II stainless liners in Dallas houses where a previous contractor skipped the insulation wrap. Uninsulated liners in an exterior masonary chimney run too cool, creosote condenses faster, and you get a glaze buildup that’s harder to remove. Our inspection measures the liner temperature during a test burn and we will tell you if the installation method is causing you to sweep more often than you should have to.
- Top-mounted dampers on Olympia open-hearth fireplaces seizing in the open position. Olympia’s energy-saving top dampers are nice until a Dallas summer with 40 days over 100 degrees bakes the grease out of the pivot hardware. Then the cable tension changes and the damper won’t seat. We see it most often on homes that haven’t had a sweep in three or more years. This is a fifteen-minute adjustment during an inspection, not a major repair.
As an independent Olympia Chimney service provider, we’re not reading from a manufacturer script. We tell you what the equipment actually does after a decade in North Texas weather.

Our Olympia Chimney Chimney Inspection Process
Every Olympia Chimney inspection we run in Dallas follows the same sequence, and you’ll know what’s happening at each step.
- 1
You call, a person answers, and we ask a few questions about the chimney: what kind of fireplace or insert, when it was last serviced, and whether you’ve noticed anything odd. We quote the inspection price on that call.
- 2
We arrive in the window we gave you, in uniform, with shoe covers and drop cloths. Our technician introduces himself by name before he steps inside.
- 3
We walk the exterior first. Flashing, crown, cap, chase top, and any visible pipe sections get checked. On Dallas homes with steep rooflines, we’ll note if the roof pitch is safe to walk or if we need to inspect from the eave.
- 4
Inside, we run the camera. For a Level 2, the camera goes up the flue with a live feed you can watch. For Olympia Ventis systems, we’re specifically checking those seam joints and lock bands.
- 5
We do a test burn if it’s safe. Smoke draw, damper function, and any CO readings get checked. If the flue hasn’t been swept in years, we may recommend sweeping before a full test burn so we don’t fill your living room with smoke.
- 6
You get a written report with photos. The price to fix anything we found is written on the same report. The Kingswell Way is simple: say the price, show up in the window, leave it cleaner, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails.

AfterWhat Olympia Chimney Chimney Inspection Costs in Dallas
Here’s the straight answer in plain dollars, because you shouldn’t have to call three companies just to hear a number.
| Service | Typical Price in Dallas | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Inspection | $189 – $249 | Visual check of accessible areas, no special equipment, for a chimney that’s been regularly maintained |
| Level 2 Inspection with Camera | $289 – $389 | Full camera scan of the flue, roof and attic access points, standard for real estate transactions or after weather events |
| Level 3 Inspection | Quoted after Level 2 | When we need to remove components to see hidden areas, rare but sometimes necessary on older Dallas masonry chimneys |
| Chimney Sweep Add-on | $149 – $249 | If the flue is dirty enough that we can’t get a clean camera view, we’ll tell you and you decide before we add anything |
What moves the price: roof pitch and accessibility, how many flues you have, and whether the chimney has ever been relined. Nothing is ever added at the end without you approving it first, in writing. Call (361) 314-3193 for your exact quote. Estimates are free.
Why Dallas Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Dallas for Olympia Chimney Work
We’ve been in business since 2002, and Nathan Corliss has been running chimney crews in the Dallas area for well over a decade. In Lakewood, where half the homes still have their original chimneys from the 1940s and 1950s, we’ve pulled creosote that had more layers than a Dallas spring forecast. We know what to look for on an Olympia Chimney system because we’ve inspected hundreds of them, from Vento air-cooled pipe to Chim-Champ II liners.
Every Olympia Chimney repair we complete gets a written price before work starts and a written guarantee when the job is done. The 365-Day Done Right Promise means if a covered repair fails within the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. We also carry materials from DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco, so if your Olympia system needs a part or repair approach that works better with a different supplier’s component, we’re not locked into one brand. We use what works, and we tell you why.
FAQs
No. An inspection by an independent service provider does not void your Olympia Chimney warranty. In fact, most manufacturer warranties require regular inspection and maintenance records, so skipping inspections is more likely to hurt a warranty claim than getting one done.
Most Olympia Chimney parts are still available through chimney supply distributors that serve Dallas, including replacement refractory panels, damper components, and pipe sections for Ventis and Vento systems. Some discontinued model-specific parts take a few extra days to source. We’ll tell you if a part is backordered before you commit to anything.
Once a year is the standard recommendation, even if you only burn fires a few times each winter. Dallas weather cycles cause expansion and contraction that loosens connections over time. An annual inspection catches small issues before they become a flue fire or carbon monoxide problem.
In most Dallas cases, yes. We schedule inspections throughout the week, and a live person answers the phone 24/7, so you won’t leave a voicemail and wait three days to hear back.
We’ll tell you honestly whether it can wait six months or needs attention this season, and we’ll put that in the written report. Some cracks are watch-and-see. A separated flue pipe is not. Your call either way, but you’ll have the full picture. Call (361) 314-3193 if you want us to walk you through what we found.
