Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Sweep in Dallas: What to Know First
We’re an independent HeatShield service provider in Dallas, and we sweep HeatShield-lined chimneys every week during burning season. A standard HeatShield chimney sweep in Dallas runs $189 – $289, takes about an hour and a half, and includes a camera check of the flue so you can see exactly what we see. You don’t need a new liner just because someone says so, and you won’t get a pitch from us without footage to back it up.
If you own a HeatShield liner system, this page is for you. We’ll explain what actually goes wrong with HeatShield products during normal use, what a proper sweep involves, and what it costs. Nathan Corliss and our Dallas crew have worked on enough HeatShield jobs to know the difference between normal wear and a real problem. Call (361) 314-3193 any time, day or night. A live person answers.
How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
HeatShield makes good products, but they aren’t indestructible. Here’s what we actually see in Dallas homes, product line by product line, and what we do about it.
- HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant (the spray-on resurfacing system). This is the most common HeatShield product in Dallas, and the failure mode we see most is debonding at the clay tile joints. Dallas temperature swings cause the original clay liner to expand and contract, and over years the Cerfractory coating can separate from the tile surface, especially near the top of the flue where heat meets humidity. During a sweep, we feel for soft spots and run a camera to check for fractured or bubbling areas. Small cracks get addressed with joint repair; large debonded sections mean the liner was applied to a surface that wasn’t properly prepped, and we’ll show you the footage before recommending anything.
- The HeatShield Joint Repair System (JointCream and Flue Sealant with the foam applicator). We see this on mid-century Dallas homes where the clay tile mortar joints have failed. The weak point is gaps behind the tile. If the original mortar bed is crumbling and the tile shifts, a joint repair is a patch, not a fix. Our sweep includes a Level 2 camera inspection, and if the tiles are offset or the gap is deeper than a quarter inch in multiple spots, we’ll tell you plainly: joint repair may buy you five years, but a full liner is the right call. We take OEM territory seriously here because HeatShield’s warranty only applies when their products are used as specified, and we won’t void that by improvising.
- HeatShield’s compatibility with older terra cotta liners. This is a real Dallas legacy issue. Homes in Lakewood, M Streets, and East Dallas built before 1970 often have clay tile flues that were never designed for modern high-efficiency gas appliances. HeatShield’s resurfacing can buy time, but if the clay itself is spalling or deteriorated, the coating only works on what’s left underneath. We’ve pulled our camera out on Lakewood jobs where the tiles looked intact from above and were crumbling inside; the HeatShield product was doing its job, but the substrate was done. A sweep with us includes a clear-eyed look at what’s under the coating.
- Creosote adhesion on textured Cerfractory surfaces. The textured finish HeatShield leaves behind is rougher than the original smooth clay, which means third-degree creosote can grip it more readily, especially if you burn green wood or run smoldering fires. This is not a product defect; it’s a maintenance reality a surprising number of HeatShield resurfaced flues pick up in Dallas fireplaces used four-plus nights a week. In Dallas we regularly see heavy glaze deposits on textured flue walls by February if the wood wasn’t seasoned. We use hand brushes rather than aggressive rotary heads on these surfaces to avoid over-brushing the coating.
- HeatShield on prefab or factory-built fireplace chimneys. We occasionally see HeatShield products spec’d on prefab flues, and the problem is always that prefab chimneys have narrower tolerances and lighter gauge materials than masonry. If the underlying stainless is warped or the insulating blanket is compromised, no coating fixes that. In Dallas, prefab fireplaces in late-80s through early-2000s suburban homes are failing from attic heat and Texas sun exposure just as fast as from use. Our sweep report spells out where the real problem is, even when it’s not the HeatShield product itself.

Our HeatShield Chimney Sweep Process
Here’s what a HeatShield chimney sweep in Dallas looks like when we do it, from the first call to the final guarantee.
- 1
You call, a person answers. We confirm your address, what fireplace or appliance you have, and whether this is a routine sweep or you have a concern. If you have a HeatShield liner, we ask when it was installed and by whom, if you know.
- 2
We show up in the quoted window. Written price before any work begins, no exceptions. If a HeatShield-specific issue comes up during the sweep, we’ll stop and explain the cost before we touch anything beyond the sweep.
- 3
We protect your home, pull the damper, and run a full inspection. Our camera goes up the flue before the brush comes out. We’re looking for the problems above, and you’ll see the footage. A sweep without an inspection is a drive-by, and we don’t do drive-bys.
- 4
We sweep with the right tools for the surface. For HeatShield Cerfractory surfaces, we use appropriately sized hand or rotary brushing that won’t gouge the coating. We remove creosote and soot from the firebox, smoke shelf, and damper assembly.
- 5
We re-camera and show you the after. You see the same angles we saw before the sweep, now clean. If there’s a defect, you’ll see it clearly, and we’ll explain your options in plain terms with plain prices.
- 6
We leave it cleaner than we found it, and you get a written guarantee on any repair work. That’s our Kingswell Guarantee: if a covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back at no charge and make it right. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is exactly that: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

AfterWhat HeatShield Chimney Sweep Costs in Dallas
Most HeatShield chimney sweeps in Dallas run $189 – $289, depending on flue height, creosote load, and whether you have a single fireplace or a multi-flue setup. Here’s how it breaks down in plain Dallas dollars:
- Basic sweep and Level 1 inspection: $189 – $229
- Sweep plus Level 2 camera inspection: $249 – $289
- HeatShield Cerfractory joint repair (minor, 1 – 2 joints): $350 – $650, depending on access and flue size
- HeatShield full resurfacing after our recommendation (if warranted): $3,800 – $6,500, quoted only after camera evidence
What moves the price: roof access in a Dallas home with a steep pitch or a tile roof, heavy glazed creosote that takes extra time, and pre-existing damage that requires repair before the sweep can be completed. You’ll always get a written price before we begin. Call (361) 314-3193 for a free estimate, and we’ll give you a real number, not a sales pitch.

Nathan Corliss has been running crews in the Dallas area for well over a decade, and he’s seen enough HeatShield jobs to know what lasts and what doesn’t. You get a technician who knows the difference between normal HeatShield wear and a structural problem, and who won’t recommend a repair without showing you the footage. We also service the other major liner brands, including DuraFlex and Gelco, so if a HeatShield product isn’t the right long-term solution for your flue, you’ll get an honest comparison, not a brand loyalty speech.
Every job starts with a written price and ends with a written guarantee. Tell you the price first, do the work right, put it in writing; that’s the whole job. You’ll get a live person when you call, a background-checked technician in uniform at your door, and a written Kingswell Guarantee on every repair. Ashby carries ash right in the name. It fits. We’re the people whose job is to clean it out.
FAQs
No. A standard chimney sweep with appropriately sized brushes and a camera inspection does not void a HeatShield warranty. When we run a camera, we’re verifying the coating is intact and the flue is clear, which is exactly what the manufacturer expects. What can void your warranty is aggressive mechanical cleaning that damages the Cerfractory surface, or unapproved repair materials. We use sweep methods appropriate for the coated surface and document everything.
Once a year if you burn wood, regardless of liner type. In Dallas, our burning season tends to run November through March, and by late January a heavily used fireplace can carry enough creosote to warrant a cleaning. If you burn mostly gas or burn less than a cord of wood per season, every other year is usually enough, but the only way to know is a quick inspection. Call (361) 314-3193 and we’ll check it.
It depends entirely on the footage. Minor joint separation and small debonded areas can often be repaired with HeatShield joint repair products without replacing the liner. If the coating is peeling in large sections or the underlying clay substrate has failed, a repair isn’t worth your money and we’ll tell you that plainly. We never recommend a full replacement without camera evidence you can see yourself. That’s a big Dallas purchase, and you should know why you’re making it.
For HeatShield-specific repairs, we use genuine HeatShield products when the repair is within warranty, because using anything else voids the manufacturer’s coverage. For non-warranty situations where a heat-rated alternative is appropriate, we’ll discuss the tradeoffs with you before we proceed. We also stock and service DuraFlex and Gelco materials, so if a different product is the better long-term answer for your flue, we’ll show you why on camera and price it honestly.
Most routine sweeps can be scheduled within the same week, and we always arrive in the window we gave you on the phone. If you’re dealing with a known issue, like visible smoke coming back into the house or debris falling down the flue, call us and explain what’s happening; we’ll work to get someone out faster. Call (361) 314-3193 for real availability, not a voicemail.
